Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – Eventing competition at the Olympic Equestrian Center at Deodoro continued on Sunday with the second day of dressage. The U.S. Olympic Eventing Team moved up from seventh place and is now tied with New Zealand for sixth place on a total of 137.50. Lauren Kieffer and Phillip Dutton gave strong performances for the U.S. in a hotly contested team competition. Germany currently leads the team standings on a total of 122, followed closely by France in second on 122.20, and Australia in third on 126.40.

The last time that Allison Springer’s Arthur ran a full event was at the 2015 Wellington Eventing Showcase exactly a year ago. The experienced Irish Sport Horse (Brandenburg’s Windstar x Kelly) has returned to the second annual Showcase to prep for his seventh attempt at the Rolex Kentucky CCI4* and started strong by scoring a 29.1 for the lead.

The last horse trotted down the centerline this afternoon as dressage at the Nutrena American Championships presented by VTO Saddlery officially concluded with impressive scores across all the Novice and Beginner Novice divisions. Tamra Smith took the lead on Favian, a 15-year-old gelding bred and owned by Anita Nardine on a score of 21.5 in the Novice Horse division. “He put in a beautiful test today, I was really happy with him. Looking forward to tomorrow I think he’ll do great.

The Adequan USEA Gold Cup Final began this afternoon and dressage finished without a single competitor’s score climbing above 39.9. Jacob Fletcher entered the ring last, but certainly not least as he and the stunning 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse, Atlantic Domino took the lead on a score of 27.6. For the third year in a row, Aspen Farms Horse Trials (AFHT) in Yelm, WA is hosting the only Advanced division in Washington state which serves as a qualifying event for the Adequan USEA Gold Cup and PRO Tour Series. This is the final qualifying event for the $40,000 Adequan USEA Gold Cup Final at the Nutrena USEA American Eventing Championships later this month.

The Adequan USEA Gold Cup Advanced division dressage was split over two days, but no one on Friday could catch Thursday’s overnight leaders, Kim Severson and Cooley Cross Border’s 30.9.The Cross Syndicate’s 8-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding (Diamond Roller x Whos Diaz) was the 2012 USEA Young Event Horse East Coast 5-year-old Champion and has successfully climbed the ranks with wins at both the CCI* and CIC2* levels.

With five horses in the Adequan USEA Gold Cup CIC3* (not to mention the two in the CCI2* and two in the Advanced), Buck Davidson kept quite busy today at Richland Park in Richland, Mich. Before scores were even posted for the CIC3*, Davidson accurately guessed the placing order of his rides, although his prediction for his longtime partner and favorite horse, Ballynoe Castle RM to be 20 points in the lead wasn’t quite spot on!

Kim Severson and Fernhill Fearless managed to hold on to their narrow lead after the second day of dressage in the Adequan USEA Gold Cup and PRO Tour Series Advanced division at the Millbrook Horse Trials in Millbrook, New York.As expected, the top of the leaderboard was shaken up somewhat with several experienced horse and rider combinations riding dressage today. However, Kim and “Sparky” had set the precedence with a 26.2 yesterday. The top three were all very consistent on the flat with minimal mistakes.
