Phillip Dutton kept his crown as the king of Red Hills with another win in the Adequan USEA Gold Cup & PRO Tour Series CIC3* after an exciting cross-country finish. Last year Phillip drove home from Red Hills in a brand new Mercedes thanks to his win aboard Jim and Arden Wildasin’s Mystery Whisper.

Marilyn Little Makes Her Mark on Adequan USEA Gold Cup & PRO Tour Series at Red Hills Horse Trials

The FEI now recommends that CICs run Show Jumping before Cross-Country in order to greater distinguish a CIC from a CCI. Red Hills Horse Trials in Tallahassee, Florida adapted the new format this year so both dressage and show jumping were held today for the Adequan USEA Gold Cup & PRO Tour CIC3* as well as the CIC2*.With two horses in both the CIC3* and CIC2*, the condensed schedule made for a very busy day for Marilyn Little, but that didn’t stop her from earning the top two spots in the CIC3* and fifth and sixth in the CIC2*.

First Adequan USEA Gold Cup Event Only Two Weeks Away

On March 7 in Tallahassee, Florida, the Red Hills CIC3* will kick off the 2013 Adequan USEA Gold & PRO Tour Series Season. This year is a big one for the Gold Cup as the format has changed to encompass 11 qualifying events with horses and riders earning the opportunity to compete for $40,000 at the year-end final in the Adequan Advanced Division at the Nutrena USEA American Eventing Championships presented by Bit of Britain.

Phillip Dutton and Mystery Whisper Take Home the First Adequan USEA Gold Cup of 2012

Phillip Dutton entered the final round of the Adequan USEA Gold Cup CIC3* at the Red Hills Horse Trials with three rails in hand. However, the significant lead was wasted as Phillip and the Wildasin’s Mystery Whisper jumped clean around Fuzzy Mayo’s course and added only three time penalties to finish on the score of 35.7. Only seven of the twenty rounds (Rachel Jurgens and Ziggy withdrew before the morning’s horse inspection) in the CIC3* were completed without poles falling.

Phillip Dutton and Mystery Whisper Extend Their Lead in the Adequan USEA Gold Cup CIC3* at Red Hills

The atmosphere today at the Red Hills International Horse Trials in Tallahassee, FL could only be described as electric. The cross-country course was packed with families out for a day of fun and a bit of excitement as they got a chance to watch the best eventers in the country tackle a top-notch course.

Phillip Dutton set the bar very high for this year’s Adequan USEA Gold Cup Series scoring a 27.9 with Arden and James Wildasin’s Mystery Whisper to lead the Red Hills CIC3* by nearly ten points over Allison Springer and Marilyn Little-Meredith who are lying equal second on Arthur and RF Rovano Rex respectively.

It's only fitting that the winner of the first event of the 2011 Adequan USEA Gold Cup Series would be decided on the final moments of the competition on Sunday afternoon, drawing out the nail-biting excitement to the very last jump. Overnight leader Allison Springer must have breathed a huge sigh of relief to cross the finish line with all the rails still neatly in their cups, solidifying her victory at the prestigious Red Hills CIC3*.
