By Hannah SladeThe Area IX season is now well underway, and the juniors and young riders are proving to be a force to be reckoned with on the leaderboards. As a young rider myself at 15, it’s pleasing to see my fellow young rider teammates be so successful. It’s astonishing to watch the young riders and their horses lead the divisions from start to finish. From Beginner Novice to Preliminary, the Area IX young riders are frequently at the top of the pack, and more often than not, maintain the lead throughout the jumping phases.

The USEA is extremely proud to announce the new inductees to join the 32 other icons of Eventing in the USEA Eventing Hall of Fame, all of whom have dedicated their lives to our sport. We wish we could include everyone who is deserving of this honor, but unfortunately the number of inductees is limited to a maximum of eight per class. We will however keep the names of all those nominated on file until the next Hall of Fame.

The Western Pennsylvania Combined Training Association has been a long-standing and loyal affiliate of the USEA since 1995. After almost 20 years, the organization is no longer active. We will miss seeing Western Pennsylvania among our affiliates. Good luck, and thanks for all your service to the Eventing affiliate community.

When USEA CEO Jo Whitehouse, who recently announced that she is retiring at the end of the year, was told by President Diane Pitts that she and former president Kevin Baumgardner would be in town on Thursday, June 18th, and planned to stop by the USEA office to “discuss the AEC” little did she know what was really afoot. The notion of conducting USEA business was just a ruse and instead Pitts and Baumgardner came bearing some electrifying news: Whitehouse has been elected to the USEA Hall of Fame and will be inducted into that august body at the USEA Annual Meeting in December.
