The Young Rider Advancement Program kicked off last weekend at the Sporting Days Horse Trials in Aiken, South Carolina. YRAP coordinator Chris Donovan wrote in about the first event of the season:

Lauren Kieffer stole the show this weekend, riding her way to two Adequan USEA Gold Cup Division wins. She was the overnight leader in both the Advanced and CIC3* divisions after cross-country, and managed to pilot both horses flawlessly around William “Fuzzy” Mayo’s technical show jump course today.

The sun came back out today for a warmer afternoon of cross-country at the Red Hills International Horse Trials. While overnight leaders Liz Halliday-Sharp and Fernhill By Night retired on course today, Lauren Kieffer and Court and Kylie Ramsay’s Czechmate rose to the top in the Adequan USEA Gold Cup CIC3* Division.Hugh Lochore, cross-country course designer for the Red Hills International Horse Trials, built a tough but educational course at all levels this year.

The “Evaluation of the Young Event Horse Prospect” Symposium in Ocala, Fla. is just days away, and the USEA is no longer accepting registrations for the morning classroom sessions.While the morning sessions are full, discounted rates will be offered to auditors interested in attending the afternoon sessions at Longwood Farm. USEA members, however, may still attend the afternoon sessions free of charge.

In keeping with the USEA and USEF policies to promote the domestic breeding of horses for Eventing, and in recognition of the benefits of competition-testing breeding stallions, a group of supporters have offered to endow an annual award to be given to the USEA-registered stallion that earns the most leaderboard points at Preliminary level and above. The USEA Board of Governors voted unanimously in December 2014 to approve this proposal.
