It always helps to see a warm and friendly face when heading to warm up for that all-important test or jump round. In this series, the United States Evening Association (USEA) is partnering with Athletux to feature those around us who help make these events happen, the volunteers. Without them horse shows and programs could not succeed, and these volunteers go above and beyond to make sure every rider feels comfortable and confident. Do you know a volunteer who should be nominated as Volunteer of the Month?

“Volunteers are the backbone of any successful competition and we couldn't run the events without their precious gift of their time,” the Eventing Discipline Manager for the 2018 World Equestrian Games (WEG) Shelley Page said. Not only is Page the designated eventing manager for the 2018 WEG in Tryon, N.C., she is also the show organizer for the 2018 United States Eventing Association (USEA) American Eventing Championships (AEC) presented by Nutrena Feeds at the Colorado Horse Park in Parker, Colo.

The Volunteer Incentive Program was established in 2017 and in just one year has experienced incredible growth, both in the number of volunteers using the Eventing Volunteers app and in the number of organizers putting the app to good use. In 2016, when the app was being piloted in Area II, it had just 800 registered volunteers. This year, the app has over 6,000 registered users and is used by 86 USEA recognized events across the country.

Calling all competitors, spectators, organizers, volunteers, and officials! The United States Eventing Association (USEA) Volunteer Committee has released a survey in efforts to improve the USEA Volunteer Incentive Program. The survey was created to seek feedback regarding interest in volunteer education opportunities.

The feedback gathered is extremely valuable to the USEA in planning opportunities for volunteers. Please take a few moments to respond to this short (three minutes or
less) Volunteer Survey.

The USEA would like to thank everyone for their participation!

“Up with the sun and never done,” is Carolyn Mackintosh’s personal motto. Mackintosh is one of the founders of the United States Eventing Association’s (USEA) Volunteer Incentive Program (VIP), a pioneer for the Eventing Volunteers app, owner of Loch Moy Farm, and organizer for every show at her farm including the Maryland Horse Trials (MDHT), combined tests, dressage and schooling shows, and the Twilight Eventing series. With a jam-packed schedule, she finds comfort in knowing her volunteers are happy and feel appreciated with the help of the USEA’s VIP Program.
