Virginia Horse Trials (VHT) is pleased to add an Intercollegiate Team Challenge to the October 26-29, 2017 CCI, CIC and Horse Trials at the request of student riders. The October event is also host of the Area II Championships and an Adult Team Challenge.
The VHT Intercollegiate Team Challenge is open to all collegiate riders from Beginner Novice through CCI2*. Any student enrolled in a college or university part- or full-time may participate.
A school is not required to be a USEA affiliate to send students to an Intercollegiate Team Challenge. (Note: a college or university must be a registered USEA affiliate to compete in the annual USEA Intercollegiate Championship).
Teams will be made up of three or four riders competing at any level. To account for differences in level difficulty, each rider’s score is multiplied by a coefficient appropriate for their level, and then the individual scores are added together to determine the team score. Only the best three individual scores will count towards the team score, so teams of four will have one “drop” score.
The coefficient system that will be applied at the VHT Intercollegiate Team Challenge is as follows:
For riders in the FEI divisions, the 1.5x FEI dressage coefficient will be removed before calculating the team score. The team with the lowest score at the end of three phases will be the winner. Team ribbons will be awarded.
To compete in the Intercollegiate Team Challenge, email team rosters to VHT Team Coordinator Leslie Threlkeld ([email protected]) no later than Tuesday, October 24. Individuals who would like to participate should express interest in being added to a scramble team.
Riders should declare their school on the stabling form or email secretary Terry Abrams ([email protected]) as soon as possible to be stabled with their team.
To enter the Adult Team Challenge, email Area II Adult Rider Coordinator, Donna Bottner ([email protected]).
