National Qualifications Summary

MINIMUM QUALFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR NATIONAL HORSE TRIALS AND THREE-DAY EVENTS

National Qualifying Result (NQR) is the score requirement set for each phase in order for the competition to count as a qualifier:
  • Dressage Score earned in a USEF Dressage Test: No more than 50 penalty points.
  • Dressage Score earned in a FEI Dressage Test: No more than 75 penalty points.
  • Cross-country Score: No Cross-country jump penalties and no more than 36 time penalties.
  • Show Jumping: No more than 16 Show Jumping jump penalties. Time penalties are not applicable for qualification purposes.
  • 25 penalties points received for Dangerous Riding will not achieve a National Qualifying result.
 
APPLICABLE TO ALL NATIONAL LEVELS LISTED IN THE CHART BELOW:
  1. At least one of the qualifying competitions must be obtained in the twelve month period prior to the competition.
  2. Refer to the USEF Rules for Eventing, Appendix 3 for competitor and horse age restrictions.

LevelMinimum Qualification Requirements
T3DBoth the competitor and the horse must have obtained NQR’s at 4 Training Level Horse Trials or higher; 1 of the 4 Horse Trials must be as a horse/rider combination (horse and rider competed together). Competitors who are already established to compete at the Preliminary Level or higher, may compete on a horse that has obtained 2 NQR’s at the Training Level or higher
PreliminaryThe competitor must have obtained NQR’s at 4 Training Level Horse Trials, may include T3D, or higher. For this level only, qualifications are specific to the competitor. There are no set minimum competition qualifications to be achieved by the horse.
P3DBoth the competitor and the horse must have obtained NQR’s at 4 Preliminary Level Horse Trials, may include CIC1*/CCI1*, or higher. Qualifications are not required as a horse/rider combination.
IntermediateBoth the competitor and the horse must have completed 4 Preliminary Level Horse Trials, may include P3D/CIC1*/CCI1*, or higher: 3 of the qualifiers must meet the NQR’s and 1of the qualifiers may have no more than 20 cross-country jump penalties. Qualifications are not required as a horse/rider combination.
Advanced
Uncategorized Riders: Both the competitor and the horse must have completed 1 NQR with no more than 20 cross-country jump penalties at either a CI2* or Intermediate Level Horse Trials, plus 3 NQRs at the Intermediate Level or higher. Qualifications are not required as a horse/rider combination.
Categorized Riders: Both the competitor and the horse must have completed 1 NQR with no more than 20 cross-country jump penalties at either a CI2* or Intermediate Level Horse Trials, plus 2 NQRs at the Intermediate Level or higher. Qualifications are not required as a horse/rider combination.
