Young Event Horse Championships at the Fair Hill International CCI**/***

USEA - Young Event Horse Championships at the Fair Hill International CCI**/***

Updated: 2009-09-25

This year, the Spalding Labs/USEA Young Event Horse Championships will be held Thursday, October 15 in conjunction with the Fair Hill International CCI and are gearing up to provide an exciting competition. Young horses are coming from all over the Eastern half of the U.S. to participate. FEI judge Joachim Dimmek (GER) is returning this year to head the judges’ panel and he will be joined by Cathy Tucker-Slaterbeck and Sport Horse conformation specialist Suzanne Quarles.

To showcase Event Horse breeding and these young stars of the future, the championships have added a special presentation this year. The YEH competition will take place on Thursday with the judges making their final decision following the jumping phase. To give spectators an opportunity to learn more about the Young Event Horse program and to get a closer look at the brightest and best four- and five-year-old horses on the East Coast, a parade of Young Event Horse Champions will take place in the main arena at noon on Friday (Oct. 16). The top eight horses in each division will show their paces individually at the walk, trot and canter and riders may choose to jump a display fence if they wish, as each horse’s owner, breeder, bloodlines, and accomplishments are broadcast to the audience. The commentator will also take this opportunity to explain the details of the Young Event Horse competition and what the judges look for in a potential four-star horse. This part of the program will NOT be judged and is intended to educate and entertain the audience, and to showcase championship breeding and young horses.  The parade will be immediately followed by the awards presentation.
