Course Maps

Last year's AEC was once again successful in bringing together eventers from all over the country in a fun-filled celebration of our sport. Competitors didn't let a little rain (okay, a record-setting eight inches of rain!) dampen their high spirits. The AEC received praises for the event staff, many of them volunteers, who worked around the clock to make sure the event ran smoothly and safely.  Our members were thrilled with the online multimedia and magazine coverage that the USEA provided competitors, their friends and family, and eventing enthusiasts all across the world. We look forward to more smiling faces this year!

Championships Points!

We're pleased to announce that we've added Championships points for placing at the AEC this year! We feel our members and their horses deserve an extra reward for placing well at the national championships. Up until now "bonus" points were not awarded for any championship - this will be the first time and it is only applicable to the AEC. Be sure to check out the new points system!

USEA Gives Amateurs a Helping Hand

What are the Bit of Britain/ USEA AEC's?
The Bit of Britain/USEA American Eventing Championships are the national championships for the sport of eventing.

Amateurs, juniors, and professional riders alike can compete at any level from Beginner Novice through Advanced to test their mettle against the best in the country, and vie for exciting prizes, cash, and the chance to be named the best in the nation at their respective levels.

The AEC has been known to draw more than 500 entries and approximately 20,000 spectators from 42 different states. 2009 will mark the AEC’s third year at the beautiful Lamplight Equestrian Center in Wayne, Illinois and run from September 10 through 13. We are returning this year with more media coverage, activities, parties, and good clean competition come rain or shine! Become a part of The Bit of Britain/USEA American Eventing Championships and become a part of one of the United States’ biggest and most unique eventing festival!

Can Anyone Compete?
Sure, as long as you're qualified! Not sure if you're qualified? Be sure to check out the list of Qualified Riders and list of Qualified Horses. Have a question about qualifications? Read over the complete Qualification List and if you still have questions, give us a call here at the office at 703-779-0440. Be sure to read carefully - some new qualifications are in place this year.

Think you're not qualified? Think again! As a service to our amateur members, the USEA IT department is working on a system to recognize amateurs who should be qualified for the Championships, but did not receive qualifying placements at events. Because many events hold "Open" divisions where the professionals and amateurs are joined together in one division, the amateurs may have a harder time trying to get the first or second placings they'll need to qualify them for the AEC. Sure, we have many outstanding amateurs who are very competitive in the Open divisions, but our hope is that our amateurs will receive an opportunity to qualify for the designated amateur divisions at the AEC, even when only open divisions are offered at qualifying events.

Read more about this exciting opportunity!

Media Coverage

Last year, we had tons of daily photo galleries from each division, audio interviews with top riders, video coverage from all three phases, and of course, daily press releases on our website. All of those exciting media opportunities will be back this year, but with much more video interviews with the winners (think CNN or Sportscenter...only better!).

Interested in covering the AEC for your magazine, newspaper, radio, television station, or website? Contact the USEA for your all-access media pass! For more information about this event, access to competitor interviews, photos of past years, sponsorship opportunities and more, please contact Emily Daily at Emily@useventing.com or 703-779-0440 ext. 3015.

Parties & Dog Show

It wouldn't be the AEC if we didn't have parties and other fun festivities! This year you can expect two great parties - since there's so many great restaurants in the St. Charles area, we figured you'd like to go "out on the town" a few nights on your own! Thursday evening will be the Welcome Party hosted by the Lamplight Equestrian Center, where you can mingle with friends over wine and cheese (or Coke & crackers). Saturday night will be the big party - we'll start things off with a cocktail hour and have the Dog Show for the evening's entertainment. After we've crowned the High Jump Champion, Best Trick, and all the other fun divisions, it's on to the party! We'll have the DJ back again this year, so be sure to stick around for dancing!

Live Scoring

The live scoring will be back on the USEA site again this year - so as soon as the judges know the scores, you'll know the scores! This way even if you can't attend the AEC's, you can still keep up with your friends and family and find out how they're ranked in the competition.

Prizes!

Last, but certainly not least, is the huge list of prizes that will be up for grabs once again this year. Here's just a taste of what's to come: seven-dose certificates for Adequan joint therapy treatment, APF from Auburn Labs, Charles Owen helmets, FITS breeches, Fleeceworks saddle pads, Nutrena gift certificates, mesh coolers and gift certificates from Saratoga Horseworks, cartons of SUCCEED digestive conditioning paste, and ThinLine reins. More exciting prizes are being added weekly - so be sure to check back often!

Updates to Lamplight Equestrian Center

The staff and owners at the Lamplight Equestrian Center have outdone themselves to make this breathtaking facility truly a championship venue. Many new updates have taken place since last year (more details to come!), which include new horse & golf cart paths, abundant stabling, new restaurant management & menu, more parking spaces for competitors, PA system in the barns, and the concession stand at the end of the rings (heading to the stabling area) has been converted into a bar.
